Rosacea

Rosacea is a common facial condition that is characterized by redness, visible blood vessels, flushing, and in some cases, acne-like bumps.  It is most common on the cheeks, nose, forehead, and chin. The area around the eyes is clear. Rosacea often occurs after the age of 30. The disease is chronic and often “waxes and wanes” with severity over a period of years. There are often specific triggers that can exacerbate a “flare.” The most common triggers include temperature fluctuations (extreme heat or cold), stress, warm beverages (coffee, tea), spicy foods, and alcohol. There are many different treatment options including oral and topical therapy and laser treatments.
