Vitiligo
Vitiligo is a condition in which the body has an acquired loss of pigment in certain areas that result in white patches, also known as “hypopigmentation.” The cause of the disorder is still not well-understood, but is highly suggestive of some genetic associations. There is a positive family history in at least 30% of the cases. Approximately half of patients are affected before the age of 20. Pigment loss can be very localized to specific areas of the body, or more generalized. There are various treatment options including topical creams, and laser treatments with the Excimer Laser. Some insurance companies are even covering the cost of the laser treatments.
