Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating, which is a common chronic condition affecting an estimated 7.8 million people in the United States.  Patients with hyperhidrosis produce an amount of sweat that far exceeds that needed to regulate body temperature.  There are multiple treatments to help hyperhidrosis.

BOTOX® was approved by the FDA in 2004 for the treatment of severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating) that is inadequately managed with topical agents. BOTOX® therapy is administered through tiny injections into the underarms to inhibit the release of a neurotransmitter, acetylcholine, from nerve cells, blocking the signals that stimulate the eccrine glands to produce sweat.
